President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela will meet King Juan Carlos of Spain on the island of Mallorca next week during a European tour, a Spanish government spokesman said. Last November the king set off a highly publicized diplomatic furor by shouting “Why don’t you shut up?” at Mr. Chávez when he interrupted Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero of Spain at a summit meeting in Chile. Tempers calmed after Mr. Chávez referred to the king as an “old friend” in a meeting with Mr. Zapatero in Peru in May. Spain is a major investor in Latin America.
